About half of the Gulf is shallow continental shelf waters, leading to warmer water temperatures which feed powerful hurricanes. Out in the open Atlantic, a hurricane will draw up cool water from the depths, and it will be much less likely that other storms will follow in its wake (warm water is a precondition for their formation). The Gulf is shallower; when a hurricane passes over the water, its temperature may drop but it quickly rebounds and becomes capable of supporting another tropical storm.
Construction: This piece comes ready to hang, pre-framed in a custom, solid-wood frame. Its rich contours are carefully crafted from laser-cut layers of Baltic birch, which are hand colored and glued together with the intent that each becomes a prized conversational piece and treasured heirloom.
