Called the "Big Island" so as not to confuse its name with the rest of the archipelago, this island is larger than all of the other Hawaiian islands put together. When measured from its base--which is on the seafloor--to its peak, Mauna Kea (the island's highpoint) is the world's tallest mountain; standing taller than Mt. Everest does above sea level.
